Announcement
We are excited to announce the first Skating Academy competition at Paradice Botany rink for 2024!
This is an opportunity for Skating Academy skaters of all levels and ages from both Paradice Botany and Avondale to participate in a variety of refreshed and new competition categories.

Venue: Paradice Botany rink, 490 Ti Rakau Drive, Auckland.
Date: 20 July 2024, competition begins at 9:15am until 12:15pm.
Entries: Will open on 4 June, 2024. Entry and payment is via iClassPro
Entry fees:
For all categories: $25 per skater per event including team or solo categories. Entry fee also includes free entry into one D) skill competition category for all entrants (including those entering D) only).
Spectators: Free entry, competitors bring a friend for free skate at the conclusion of competition.
Entry closing date: 11:59pm, 6 July 2024.
Late entries: Will be at the discretion of event organisers if ice time allows.
Judging: Results will be determined by majority opinion of the judges, taking into account the technical and artistic aspects of the performance.
Music: Applicable to categories A) and C) only, music must be submitted in the format requested by the event organisers. Further information for this to be posted online at a later date.
Official Photography: will be provided by Olga Levien, official photographer of many previous figure skating competitions via www.levienphotography.com/figure-skating. Information on pricing and packages is available directly on their website.
Categories and eligibility:
Please note entries in each category may be separated by age and/or KiwiSkate level depending on the number and demographics of entrants. Skaters may enter into more than one category across A) to D), but no more than one in B), see above for combo pricing.
A) Creative:
A1. Theatre on Ice: open to skaters of all ages and levels who are current students in the Skating Academy. Skaters perform a programme in a group of 3 or more with no required elements to their own choice of music on the full ice surface, limit of 2 minutes in length.
A2. Inflatables: open to skaters of all ages and levels who are current students in the Skating Academy. Entries from current Skating Academy coaches may be considered at the event organisers discretion. Skaters perform in a group of 2 or more while wearing a full body inflatable costume a programme with no required elements to their own choice of music on the full ice surface, limit of 60 seconds in length.
B) Skating Academy Programmes: All levels in this category will skate a preset programme (with preset music) for their level. Level 1-4 will skate on 1/3 of the ice, while level 5 will skate on 1/2 of the ice. This is open to all skaters who are current students in the Skating Academy, but can only enter in the level aligning to their current KiwiSkate level assessment on iClassPro at the time of entry submission.
Programme content, example videos, and music files for practice will be available online.
B1. Level 1: open to Tiny Tots (under 6 years old and not passed Beginner), and pre-beginner (over 6 years but attending Tiny Tots or equivalent level) KiwiSkate skaters.
B2. Level 2: open to Beginner and Elementary KiwiSkate level skaters.
B3. Level 3: open to Basic and Novice 1 KiwiSkate level skaters.
B4. Level 4: open to Novice 2 and Advanced KiwiSkate level skaters.
B5. Level 5: open to Free Skate 1-3 KiwiSkate level skaters.
C) Synchronised: as per NZIFSA guidelines for KiwiSkate grade synchronised. Full ice surface.
D) Skill competitions: the following four sub categories are open to skaters of all ages and levels who are current students in the Skating Academy. Skaters will have a time limit of 60 seconds and a 1/3 of the ice to perform the skill in isolation with unlimited attempts. Judges will evaluate based on typical grade of execution qualities relevant to the skill. More information will be posted online at a later date.

E) Gala: we invite experienced skaters and synchronised skating teams who are ineligible for the Skating Academy competition and are willing to skate a short gala performance to approach the event organisers.
