Ice Figure Skating Coaching Position
March 09 ICE FIGURE SKATING COACHING IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
Paradice Ice skating Arenas has 2 facilities that have been privately owned and managed for the past 35 years by the Blong Family. Three family members represented New Zealand between World Championships in Figure Skating & Ice Hockey, and have coached competitive skaters.
Paradice management encourages the development of Figure Skating. There are currently 16 professional coaches in Auckland most of whom teach part time, 3 fulltime. It is important to maintain a good working relationship between each of the coaches and the Arena Management.
Paradice Ice Arena’s are located 20-30minutes driving distance apart. Avondale Ice Arena is located 15 minutes west of the city centre and is a minimum International size ice Arena (56m x 26m). Botany Downs Arena opened in April 1999, located 20 minutes east of the city centre, an International Olympic Size (60m x 30m). This arena is located in a high profile and good socio economic area. It is probably one of the best ice skating facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.
Paradice’s main sources of income are from Public Skating Admissions, Ice Hockey, and Skate School Classes. Between both Arenas we average 600 skaters in our classes.
The new coaching position will be located at both of the Paradice Arena. Position includes teaching Skate School Classes, Group tuition, taking skaters from a beginner level to figure skating. Skate School classes are co-ordinated by the Skate School Director. It is imperative recreational classes are safe, enjoyable and a rewarding experience for all ages.
The coach must be prepared to teach all levels of skaters, from Skate School classes, future competitive skaters, to Senior level skaters (prefer experience at teaching triple jumps).
We currently have a development programme in place where talented skaters are selected from
Skate School and are given additional training in a small group environment. We see this as a stepping stone to increasing the number of figure skaters in Auckland.
We are looking for a motivated person who can establish their coaching business. Who is able to develop and raise the standard of figure skating in New Zealand, therefore we view this position as ideally long term, for a minimum of 2 preferably 3 years.
Because skating in New Zealand has fewer skaters than the Northern Hemisphere countries there is a higher possibility for skaters to represent New Zealand Internationally. Therefore there is an opportunity to take skaters to National & possibly overseas competitions.
